PBL Share

Dear Vermont Day School Families (& Friends!),

The K/1, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, & 6/7 classes are enthusiastically wrapping up our third round of projects and are excited to share our learning journeys with you! Making our learning public by sharing it with an intended audience adds motivating power, encourages high-quality work, and is an essential part of Project Based Learning. Our PBL Share is on Friday, April 12th at 2:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you at this “open-house” style event where you will learn about our inquiries in Global Studies & STEM across the grade levels!

Fondly,

Brea, Caryn, Dylan, Erin, Ida, Jamie, & Marie

2/3 To Market, To Market!

Driving Question: How can we, as business owners, produce a product that makes a profit?

Sustained Inquiry: For our third project the 2/3 class embarked on a journey of economic proportions. We started with creating a classroom economy where the 2/3 students could earn money by completing challenges related to VT industries or getting caught being on-task. Challenges included learning about the supply chain of a VT product, creating a marketing poster for a VT product and creating a greeting card informing readers about VT industries. The 2/3 learners where saving money and adding earned monies to there bank ledgers. As savings accounts were growing, students began to plan what kind of product base business they wanted to start.  With their wallets filled with classroom cash they were off to purchase supplies and open their maker’s station. Making products was one of the group’s favorite parts!  After spending time making products, students hit the paper and continued writing business plans. Lastly, each 2/3 student designed and prepared their booth for the Maker’s Market.
