Art So Far

So far, the 2/3 Art students have blown me away with their enthusiasm, creativity and kindness for one another! We are beginning the year by building community, becoming comfortable with art tools, materials and techniques and practicing routines. We’ve been focusing on the Elements of Art and how artists use them throughout their works.

We began the year with paper sculptures, discussing the elements line and 3D form.

Next we explored texture by using various tools to create painted papers. It was a big hit!

For “Dot Day,” we created collages inspired by Alma Thomas, who in her 70s, adopted a signature style of painting. We discussed what it means to be unique and how important it is to be brave when creating art work. Sometimes you just have to make your mark and see where it takes you! Once these pieces were complete we reflected on our work. Students noticed that each piece was unique and different from the rest. We practiced giving each other positive feedback and set some goals for our next project (which will begin this week!)

Until next time,

Ida
